As we have all experienced once, acculturation is one of the most common parts of our lives, whether through music, language, or habits. On many occasions it is more obvious, but they are still part of our entire life. Through my experiences and some of my classmates we have been able to identify this topic in our lives. Having been born in the United States but raised in Mexico until I was 16, my acculturation was really clear when I arrived in this country with no prior knowledge of this language or society. Everything was completely different, but I managed to adapt to a new culture in a short period of time, learning a new language and successfully finishing high school. Now that I've gotten to college, I feel like I'm going through a new acculturation process, not as hard or obvious. But leaving and having many Asian friends made me gradually acculturate to their Asian culture. It all starts when you put into practice small customs such as taking off your shoes at the door, eating rice with anything and eating especially with chopsticks. I was introduced to this and, in my opinion, I became acculturated to this culture. However, not all stories are the same. Lizandro Laverman experienced acculturation more indirectly through his parents' experiences. His parents basically came to the United States to have a better lifestyle. He himself personally considers himself American. Even though he is actually 75% Guatemalan and 25% German, he considers himself 100% American. He also speaks both languages fluently, English and Spanish, but he speaks English more than anything else. He also feels embraced when he eats Guatemalan dishes. In general, his parents are only accustomed to a lifestyle that comes from Guatemala as a train...... middle of paper ......rin G (1993) Problems in measuring acculturation among Hispanics.
