When thinking about writing, people often don't think about the technical aspects behind it. When they think about what they want to write, there are few things they think about; what they are writing about and who they are addressing. Genre and audience are one of the most important things an author can think about. Rhetorical situations are something a writer doesn't have to worry too much about because it's simply the way people communicate. It gets even more complicated when you write about yourself. Sometimes it can be difficult to bring out things about yourself. Other times it is simply difficult to bring up a person's past and even think about it. As a writer, you need to be able to distance yourself and have a clear mind when doing so. One of the most important things any person must have when writing is a clear mind. Leena Sen, author of the book Communication Skills, says: “Behind good writing lies the power to think clearly. Writing becomes messy and lacks clarity of meaning when the thinking process goes awry. Clear thinking leads to clear writing” (177). Writing is not an easy skill for everyone, there are some obstacles that come in the way while writing. Not everyone has the natural ability to write. People have difficulty understanding the technical aspects. This becomes a problem especially when writing about yourself. It could just be because the individual simply can't clear their mind enough and focus on just one thing. It could also be that the individual doesn't know how to write about themselves. In “Transforming into a Character,” Lopate states that to transform into a character in your writing, you need to be able to look at yourself from the ceiling. To... middle of paper... very easily to people, especially when writing about yourself. For some it's about trying to clear the mind, for others it's about putting together literature and grammar to create writing. Others struggle because it's something completely new. Once a person starts writing, as long as he can keep his mind clear, nothing can stop him. Just like Hooks, I used writing as a kind of therapy that backfired on me. Writing about your experience can easily become something that not only helps you deal with the past, but also something that starts to take some of the weight off your shoulders. Writing may not be easy for everyone, but in the end it all comes down to the fundamentals. No matter how difficult it is, every person can become a writer. It all goes back to the fundamentals; know who the audience is and what genre you are writing about.
