Projects with lower levels of complexity require less intricate software to track project progression. Most projects with a lower level of complexity can use common software packages currently available/open source on office computers. For this assignment we chose to investigate some less common project management software programs. We found some emerging software programs that use the tools needed to complete a project task. We have researched and familiarized ourselves with the programs we have selected to provide insight into the interconnections of some of the latest innovations in project management software. One of the most accessible types of project management software available is Microsoft's Excel, which can be found within the Microsoft Office suite. Excel features and benefits include: easy to use and understand program format, drop-down boxes and formulas, the program offers ability to create GANTT charts and numerous different graphical aids to help visually identify the processes of a project. The Excel program can help in creating budget and financial analyses. One of the additional features Excel offers is a free set of ready-made templates, so you save time by not having to create your own specialized setup. Free Excel templates serve as a resource for any project management task. Here is a list of some of the free templates you can use for project development using Microsoft Excel: project schedules, timelines, critical path construction analysis, and project timeline. Another lower complexity software package that can help you with project management tasks is Intuito's QuickBase. QuickBase project management software can easily edit and customize......half of the document. Unfortunately, this program is on the higher end of the spectrum and costs just over three thousand dollars per user per year. This particular software offers assistance to its users through the virtual resource center or via online web cast. In summary, our conclusion is that less expensive project management software programs may not be robust enough to handle larger, more complex projects. We have reviewed a variety of software programs to help project professionals select the best program to meet their specific project needs. Each individual software program offers a dynamic set of resources to provide a systematic method for defining project elements that will ultimately lead a project manager to choose the most efficient project management software. Every software program is designed to help guide a project manager towards a successful outcome.
