She is an African American who is not only a symbol for black people everywhere, but a symbol for all people. The Academy of Achievement has called Oprah Winfrey one of the most successful and admirable women in America. She is a woman who many people across America trust, respect and admire. His ability to capture the hearts of many has distinguished his role in today's society. Oprah lived a difficult childhood, received an excellent education and received numerous awards and recognition. Her efforts in providing and giving back to America and other parts of the world have earned her the title of one of the most influential people in the world. Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was born into a family that didn't have much money but still managed to make ends meet. She was originally named Orpah Gail Winfrey after one of the people from the biblical books of Ruth. It was changed due to the difficulty people had pronouncing his name, so the d and p were reversed. His mother is Vernita Lee and his father is Vernon Winfrey. For part of his life he also lived with his grandmother Hattie Mae. While living with her grandmother she was able to learn to read before the age of three.
