Sociocultural developmental theory emphasizes the importance of social interaction with peers and explains how exposure to technology takes away important experiences such as play based on the hypothesis of displacement. This can result in antisocial behavior including aggression. Vygotsky emphasizes the importance of listening and speaking words to the developing child. Limiting these aspects necessary for healthy development could lead to isolation due to lack of language and imagination. Finally, the impacts of exposure to technology on brain development are of concern due to the highly stimulating and speed-dominated nature of technology. Personally, I was shocked to read how much technology is used by babies and toddlers. Obviously there were various forms of technology around when I was younger; however, I didn't use the Internet until I was nine. Although it's a little scary to think about how dangerous technology can be for teens and young adults, especially when you also consider all the distractions it offers like texting, social media, and video streaming services like Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix , it's scary that all this is available even for babies and toddlers.
