I thought being with a woman would give me a deeper form of intimacy that men in my age group lack. Romance in a heterosexual relationship is often inspired by the woman. According to Rappleyea (2015), Sternberg's Theory of Love states that romantic love is the combination of intimacy and passion. Romantic love, even without commitment, is probably the most important form of love to me because it almost resembles the consummate love that is the goal of every intimate relationship. Women tend to consider romance to be their most significant “love language,” and most men recognize this. So men often "go the extra mile" to make sure his woman is happy so he can get what he wants sexually in return. Unlike heterosexual relationships, I have concluded that women know how to love other women. Therefore, I didn't have to beg for romance/intimacy, it's almost like it happened naturally in our relationship. Although I am shocked to receive a score of 5 in the romance section of the "Love Style" inventory, the results are justified due to the change in my dating preference. Homosexual relationships involve a tremendous amount of "courting", especially when you are not open about your sexuality.
