What does it take to be a police officer? My heart skipped a beat and immediately my mind started racing; Was he speeding? Didn't it stop completely? Why was the officer behind us with his lights on? These were all thoughts that ran through my mind when an officer turned on his blue and red lights while my mother was driving. I couldn't help but feel like we were in trouble, but just as quickly as those thoughts came; they left as he zoomed past us. It felt like I dodged a bullet. I already knew that police officers do much more than stop people and write tickets. They respond to noise complaints, drive around and patrol areas of high criminal activity, respond to accidents and go to people's homes if they call 911. I would like to know more about the type of calls officers respond to and the type of person it takes to be a police officer. Do officers respond to every 911 call? Do they ever get scared when they go to a call? I would also like to know how much money they earn and what their working hours are. Is risking your life worth your salary in the end? The desire to one day become a police officer made me want to learn more about a career in law enforcement. Will I one day have what it takes to become a police officer? After doing my research I was able to answer this question. The Story of My Search I began my search by talking to my aunt, Corporal Nunes. I made an appointment and met her at work. He is a police officer with the Sonoma State University Police Department. He has been with the Sonoma State University Police Department for 12 1/2 years and still loves his job.
