TitanicEveryone knows or at least has heard of the Titanic in some way. We know that it was supposed to be an unsinkable ship, and that it was supposed to make a voyage to New York before hitting an iceberg and sinking in the Atlantic on April 15, 1912. The plans and designs of the Titanic were accepted on July 29, 1908. Soon after they set to work building the ship. The ship was not completely finished until March 31, 1912 when they sea-tested her on April 2. While the ship was sailing to Southampton to pick up passengers, it was still on the test route. The ship contained only about 16 lifeboats which could hold about 65 people each. The number of people on board the ship was estimated to be approximately 2,227. On the way to New York, the sea was calm and clear but as we went there were at least seven iceberg warnings. Unfortunately, as they continued sailing, they hit an iceberg which caused a tear in the ship and the water began to overflow. They began to evacuate the boat trying to get everyone off. Unfortunately the boat sank on April 15, 1912 around 2 am. Many lives were saved that night, but many lives were also lost. If interactive media had been around at this time Facebook - If Facebook had been around at this time we would have seen event posts for people to join this trip or for people to post photos of the ship. We would see many posts about the Titanic and how people would be so excited to take this journey. There would also be a post about the sinking ship and some guests and survivors would put things online. It could have played an important role in spreading the word about the ship... middle of paper... and that's something I hope never happens again. The assignment could relate to last week's discussion on Convergence Policy. If these social sites had been present, people could have used push media by broadcasting them in newspapers or on social sites. Then they could have used pull media by creating hashtags and the like to make the event visible to people and they could have created a contest for the ship to get noticed. Communication protocols could also have been used because people would have sent photos and videos to their friends and many more if Facebook and the like had existed. They would also share videos of ongoing activities or invite someone else on the ship to join them. In all theses, most people were able to post photos and videos to raise awareness of the Titanic..
