Grendel in the Beowulf epic is portrayed as a monster, a creature who has no thoughts about who he kills. While in the film Beowulf and Grendel (Gunnarsson 2005); he is much more like a human being. In some parts of the film, thoughts are led to believe that he does not actually intend to kill random people, but only hurts those who have "hurt" him. This, in fact, leads one to believe that Grendel in the film was not really the villain: it shifted towards the fact that Hrothgar was the villain for killing Grendel's father. This is linked to the fact that as we modernize we tend to have need a reason to do things, most people won't put up with things if they don't ultimately benefit from the end result. However, the film changed the natural perspective and/or view a reader would take from the film
