There are some things that happen in your life that you are not ready for. Teenagers believe they are invincible. When some discover that they are actually not, it can affect their lives. I thought I was invincible. Sure, getting scrapes and bruises wasn't a big deal to me, but I wasn't ready for what was to come. Growing up, I played softball, basketball, volleyball, and track and field. I was addicted to sports. They were my life year round and I was excited to play all my sports for my high school. With the rest of the basketball girls from the surrounding area, I started summer basketball camp. There was a basketball tournament where we played 4 games in one day. During the match an opponent stole the ball, so I chased her down the field. Once I reached her under the trash can, I tripped over her foot, fell, and heard something snap. I was absolutely freaked out. The referees ran to me. All I could say was “Something came up! Something exploded!” I couldn't bend my leg at the knee, it was scary. I was taken to the main lobby to leave. I couldn't bend my leg for two weeks. Once I was able to bend my knee again, I started playing sports again. I took a break from basketball, but continued with softball and volleyball. My knee wasn't the same anymore, but I thought it would go away. During my volleyball camp at Olivet Nazarene University, I was jumping to block and when I landed my knee gave out and I knocked my friend Christie over. I couldn't believe this was happening again! Since I couldn't get up, once again, the coach insisted that I go see Ozzy, the coach. He checked my knee and thought I had torn my meniscus (the cartilage in the knee joint) and perhaps had a small tear in my MCL (the inner hamstring). He insisted that I go to OAK Orthopedics (a healthcare office that includes 8 orthopedic surgeons) to see Dr. Ellis. I wasn't afraid to go to the doctor, because I thought I knew what was wrong. I was told it would only take four weeks to heal. Dr. Ellis told me the same thing Ozzy told me, but I took an x-ray first, just to make sure there were no fractures or broken bones.
