Upper class women living in poleis could venture out with some sort of chaperone and had to wear some kind of veil to prevent male attention from of other families. The woman did not have the freedom to live a normal life like we do today. The only way a girl in Greece could get a proper education in Greece was if their families had a lot of landholdings, but a large portion of the lower class families were unable to provide an education for their girls because they did not they could afford their daughters. do not help with household chores. This may not be a great example of a patriarchal society, but it may depend on how you look at it. Education should be available to all children, boys and girls, and the fact that education is so difficult to obtain due to cost only makes girls more naïve to what they could actually accomplish. The fact that girls do not receive an education makes them more vulnerable to falling under the authority of a well-educated male. If the cost of education were lowered or decreased altogether, girls would be able to acquire the knowledge necessary to become a strong, intelligent woman who does not need to rely on a man throughout their adulthood.
