Ads became more unique and creative starting in the 1940s. They not only cater to family life, but also to single life. In the 1940s, automotive advertising was aimed at the modern family. Although there are still car adverts showing happy families in nice cars; there are also advertisements for some vehicles more suitable for singles. Marketing is constantly evolving to meet what the majority of the population wants or needs. Jib Fowles "The Fifteen Fundamental Appeals of Advertising" discusses the need for prominence. In the advertising portfolio there is a Cadillac advertisement that depicts a man in a car with multiple women and men. This advertisement can be interpreted by an individual that if a man buys a Cadillac he will gain popularity among both men and women. In contrast, other car advertisements from this period feature mostly women. In most cases they can be interpreted as a need for attention.
