American literature began with the writings of English colonists in which they wrote of the glory of their god and others wrote of their struggles carried out by their ruler from England. Their adventures in the New World were also a great inspiration for many others to write about. Native American writings were also seen by many, as they shared their thoughts on creation and, among other things, their suffering made possible by the settler who ceded much of their land.
