Sweat pours out, slowly sliding down and finally dripping from his face. His heart pounds as he huffs and puffs. He takes stuttering steps, pulls out, feints again and quickly spins from right to left outsmarting his opponent and grabbing his leg. He doesn't even think about it anymore. His constant movements have become reflexes and his reflexes are second nature. Time is quickly running out and his team needs the win to win the doubleheader. He clings to his opponent's legs, gripping them tightly as time slips away. There is a moment of silence from the teammates, interrupted by loud applause from the opposing team. The game is over. His head falls from his body, as if all his beliefs rest on his shoulders, too heavy to bear what is lost. He runs off the carpet shocked and distraught. The streets of his mind are clogged with traffic with thousands of thoughts trying to come to a conclusion about what went wrong. There is little compassion given to the warrior, the fighter. He is expected to recover and get back on track, return to training and continue to fight. Wrestlers train countless hours on and off the mat for regulation matches no longer than six minutes. Six minutes doesn't seem like enough time to shatter a dream, but it does. Wrestlers' dreams must face this challenge every time they step onto a mat. Their dreams of wrestling success are tested in every match. No one else can fight for them but themselves. Wrestling is a beautiful sport because it has a different level of team purity and individual intensity that sets it apart from other sports.
