Ordinary People - Difficulties The theme of ordinary people can be best expressed in the words of Honi Werner: "Some things cannot be foreseen or understood or blamed on anyone: they can simply be endure Love, openly shared, is the only thing one can count on to give them the strength to endure.” Ordinary People provides a wonderful real-life example and deals with many internal conflicts. This story of a boy's recovery afterward his brother's death is extremely compelling and captivating. Throughout the book the reader is gradually and steadily exposed to aspects of each character's personality. The characters are extremely well developed and very compelling great job clearly revealing that complexity. I also enjoyed the various internal conflicts Conrad had to deal with, including his parents friends, forgiving himself and others for his brother's death, and allowing himself to express emotions. These conflicts have led me to take a hard look at some of my problems. This book is definitely made to make people think and not simply to entertain, despite its both successful results. There were some aspects of the story that I didn't like. At first I wasn't satisfied with the ending because I felt it didn't have a resolution. Later, I realized that Ordinary People had a pretty powerful ending. I think, however, that Guest could have provided a little more information about the family and written in a way that would have made it easier to understand who was talking. This book would not have been liked and appreciated by everyone. Most people, however, would appreciate it because it is realistic and relevant to most people's lives. This book was definitely written for a mature audience who likes to read about real-life circumstances. This novel makes for a wonderful film that is both powerful and painful. Timothy Hutton won an Oscar for his portrayal of Conrad Jarrett. I would definitely reread this book. There are so many hidden meanings and themes that I think new insights can be discovered with each reading. Ordinary People is funny, funny, well written and very moving. Conrad is an accurate representation of a teenager of that time. This story makes the reader appreciate life and realize that no matter how much he wants to escape his problems and feelings, he cannot escape from himself..
