I completely agree that Faulkner most likely didn't intend for Homer to come off as gay, but readers took it in a different way than he expected . While some of the evidence provided by the story might be convincing to some, the facts are not there to overturn my thoughts on Homer and his sexuality. The underlying evidence is overly compact in “A Rose for Emily” to assume that he too is gay. Anything from assuming he "liked boys" means he feels love for them as in a relationship, but perhaps he likes them as friends and companions. Along with this statement, Faulkner mentions, "he liked to drink with the younger guys at the Elk's Club", which can also be concluded that he simply enjoys their company more. On the other hand I can see evidence that he is a pedophile because he doesn't say man, but instead says boy. Ultimately, the article Caesar presented didn't have enough evidence to move me away from my beliefs about Homer's sexuality from the start, considering I had never thought of Homer being gay or straight before reading this article.
