Topic > Energy Production - 1865

In today's society it is almost impossible to open a newspaper, turn on a computer or hold a conversation that is not in some way related to energy. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution over a century and a half ago, nothing has been more instrumental to humanity's rise to power as the apex species on planet Earth. If our ancestors had not discovered the potential of using millions of year-old plant and animal remains to create fuel energy, the world would look very different. There is no denying that energy production is one of, if not, the most important developments in human history. After one hundred and fifty years of recklessly burning oil and coal, we find ourselves facing literal chaos unforeseen by our industrious ancestors. We can no longer ignore the repercussions of our unsustainable dependence on fossil fuels, nor put off the task of finding a solution for the next generation of humans. “Energy use and its costs are increasing worldwide, most countries remain dependent on oil imports, and little progress has been made toward curbing climate change” (Deutch 2011). This inconvenient truth has left governments, environmentalists, and consumers scrambling to develop a way to provide massive amounts of energy at an affordable cost, while significantly reducing our harmful carbon emissions. In a perfect alternative world, clean energy should have been pursued intensively when the true extent of the oil instability was first revealed in the 1970s, but better late than never. There are dozens, if not hundreds of alternatives to oil and coal being considered, however, while many options sound promising in theory, the vast majority of them, such as wind, solar and biofuels, are simply not economically feasible… middle of the paper… to guide study design. First research results from the study are expected until the end of 2012 with the aim of a report in 2014.ANH International. "Who we are | ANH international."
