Debra LafaveDebra Lafave, also known as Debra Jean Beasley, was a former school teacher at Angelo L Greco Middle School, located in Temple Terrace, Florida. He made headlines when he crossed the line between teacher and sex offender after it came to light that he was having a sexual relationship with one of his students who was fourteen. At the time this occurred, Debra was twenty-four years old and married. She was charged with lewd or lascivious assault on a minor. Now, why would a teacher go from being a role model to a sex offender? It may be something we will never really know. Lafave, was this beautiful blonde who had a somewhat troubled childhood, she claimed to have been raped at the age of thirteen by an older boy. Then her older sister was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. She has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. What kind of sex offender is Debra Lafave? Shows signs of falling into different forms of subtypes. He shows some signs of being a fixated predator, a regressed predator and also what is called Automatic Approach. A course based on the various readings I did about her on the Internet. However, it doesn't meet all the criteria for these; It has some marks. Her ex-husband "claimed that Lafave nurtured the relationship for several weeks until she finally had the chance to achieve her goal on her own. Experts on sexual predators call it "grooming": the adult finds ways to break down the child's resistance and involve him or her in their scheme." (Ramsland, 2014) An obsessed predator often grooms its victims. (Section 4: Subtypes and Typologies, 2014) Yet he also shows signs of regressed behavior. S... half the paper... their victim, or their victims. Both appeared to have had problematic childhoods that may have affected them mentally to the point of inappropriate pleasure seeking. Debra was never violent, while John was the opposite. There are many differences between them, yet both were guilty of being sex offenders.
