Topic > A Brief Biography of Emily Dickinson - 775

The famous poet Emily Elizabeth Dickinson, was born on December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Growing up, she was busy with school, religious activities, gardening, baking, and exploring nature. His family was well known in Massachusetts; his father was a member of the governor's cabinet and a member of the United States Congress. In 1840 he attended Amherst Academy. At Amherst Academy she was an excellent student. Many said it attracted a lot of attention and was very original in the way it presented itself. Dickinson's poetry has a great deal of scientific vocabulary and she acquired most of her knowledge about it in this academy. Seven years later, she enrolled in Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. At Mount Holyoke she was academically successful and very involved. Like most institutions of the time, Mount Holyoke believed that the religious life of students was part of the responsibility. Dickinson refused to take part in the school's Christian evangelical efforts. He hadn't given up on Christ's claims, but he didn't think it was an important issue. Dickinson loved to send short poems to friends on holidays and other special occasions. On Valentine's Day 1849, Dickinson wrote a poem and sent it to William Howland, one of the young men in her father's law firm. Howland was so impressed by the poem; sent it to the Springfield Republican newspaper. A few days later, Dickinson saw the poem printed on the page. She was completely horrified and managed to hide the paper from her father. This shows that he kept his poems secret. By the mid-1850s, her mother became ill with the plague for the rest of her life, so Dickinson was confined to the home. Around that time he was starting to get his poetry… middle of the paper… poetry because when I read it, I suddenly became interested. The thought of the speaker going through the stages of a breakdown and referring to it as a “funeral” was quite unique. Until then the speaker had not known or experienced madness. I have learned that when you are going through a difficult time and have difficulty understanding difficult events, you can still resolve the causes of what is happening. Poetry helps me understand what it's like to be at that point in your life, if that happens. Emily Dickinson was a truly unique and original writer. He is a great inspiration to me, as well as others. She was full of mystery and I think that's why people are so interested in her, other than the fact that she wrote wonderful, creative poetry. His dark way of writing things makes you think and keep wondering. His poems will be such an inspiration, passed down from generation to generation.
