Topic > Movie Analysis Waitress - 2002

In the movie, Dr. Pomatter goes to Jenna's house when Earl goes to work. During this scene, Doctor Pomatter is there to keep Jenna safe from any harm Earl has caused in the past. Watching this part of the movie, I forgot for a second that her husband abused her and that when you look at the connection between Dr. Pomatter and Jenna it just seems like a romantic comedy where everything in the world for a second is fine, everything was just " Perfect". When they watch this scene, the two handsome main protagonists are alone in the house and see how the main female protagonist is teaching the male protagonist how to make cakes but pretends not to know what to do. Toward the end of the scene, Jenna and Dr. Pomatter have a conversation that feels like the cherry on top of the perfect sundae of a romantic comedy or “chick flick.” With his romantic charm, Dr. Pomatter says, "I could find the whole meaning of life in those sad eyes." (Waitress, 2007) Caught in the moment, Jenna responds with "Wow..." And like any romantic movie, they end the conversation with a big romantic kiss. To add, towards the end of the film, when Jenna goes into labor, both Earl and Dr. Pomatter are in the same room together, yet it never crossed Earl's mind that Jenna was seeing Dr. Pomatter behind his back. Once again, we return to the idea of the romantic comedy where two male leads fight over the lead female role. Also making things strange for Jenna is that Dr. Pomatter's wife was in the same room with Jenna right before she gave birth.
