The result was an upward attack on the city's wealthy and a downward attack on African Americans. It was a time when all the secrets and problems of the city were revealed. At the end of the riots the city had two choices: continue with its troubled ways, or turn around and make new laws and rules to make things right. Even if it will take decades before they pass some sort of reform to initiate changes. The most significant thing about the Draft Riots is that they took this disaster and instead of using this moment to cry and lament what had happened, they turned it into an opportunity for change. Even though these things happened hundreds of years ago, every moment and every memory that happened is why New York works the way it does now.
