It's like entering another world inside the maroon and gold striped tent. The unimaginable is possible in this magical place. Men and women zoom overhead as they fly from swing to swing. The juggling clubs float in the air with a perfect spinning motion. Men and women walk with controlled stability on a thin rope that crosses an apparent abyss. The actions of the artists are united in perfect harmony. The audience watches in utter amazement as their eyes attempt to swallow the enchanting sight. Inside this magical place the possibilities are endless. (this is my lede) A rare show to witness, “Flying High Circus, is only one of two collegiate circuses in the nation; the other at Illinois State University. Jack Haskin founded the “Flying High Circus” at Florida State University in 1947, with the aim of creating a non-competitive activity that integrated men and women. The circus was founded the same year the university became coeducational. “Flying High Circus” is an integral part of the continuing tradition and legacy of Florida State University. Collegiate circus is a unique activity that engages men and women to work together in a way that unleashes their strengths and reveals their personalities. The “Flying High Circus,” being such an influential aspect of the student college experience, should push other universities to create more collegiate circuses. Only 9.2% of campus clubs are performance clubs. In other words, there are only 60 performance clubs out of the university's 651 total clubs. And among these clubs, circus is the only unique activity that can integrate any student into the Florida State community, while strengthening its strength and keeping it… halfway… performing, is in all memories, the lifelong friendships and skills you learn from this incredible experience. ""The greatest show on earth is, and has been for more centuries than any scholar can count, the circus. I envy the little children who experience the thrill of seeing it for the first time, and I can assure them, from my long experience, that this first thrill will remain and be revived again and again, as long as they go. seeing The Greatest Show on Earth, they will continue to be children.” -Robert E. Sherwood, playwright. 1955Circus is more than a performing art. The impact of the circus discipline, in fact, goes beyond its technical and artistic content. Its goal is not only to build a distinctive and skillful human team to entertain its audience, but also to help all its members achieve a well-rounded life..
