To correct the fatal flaw that our society is experiencing, both authors have developed a theory that they believe to be the most efficient. Dewey believes that there are two aspects to our society: play, which is related to a process-oriented society, and work, which is a product-driven society. Dewey says that too much play leads to deception and too much work leads to toil. We need to find a balance between the two; However, is this easier said than done? Zinn confesses that his idea of social change is a revolution, a social revolution. The problem is that our society does not know how to engage in such a revolution, especially when the majority of the population subconsciously does not believe that there is anything wrong with the functioning of our society. In my opinion, the most feasible solution to correct our imbalanced society is to find a way to follow Dewey's philosophy. Life can't be all work and no play and vice versa. I find Zinn's idea of a revolution far-fetched. After reading essays written by two influential men of their time, I realized that they were influential men of their time.
