Healthcare Reform Healthcare is currently, and has been, a hot topic in politics and in the life of the average person today. Since Obama took office he has raised the issue of providing every American with health care coverage while keeping costs low. Since his re-election, we have been faced with a healthcare reform that has destroyed our country and our politicians. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” is “A federal statute signed into law in March 2010 as part of the Obama administration's health care reform agenda. Signed into law as The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the law included multiple provisions that would take effect within a few years, including expanding eligibility for Medicaid, establishing health insurance exchanges, and prohibiting health insurers from denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions” (Affordable Care Act). The reform aims to help those who cannot cover the costs of coverage due to low income or lack of work, as well as those who have been denied coverage due to pre-existing health conditions; it is essentially there to help those who need it most. Unfortunately, Obamacare is not beneficial to those who are currently covered, typically known as the average American, as it is neither affordable nor constitutional. The Affordable Care Act provides health insurance to needy individuals while simultaneously taking away the rights of those who need it. which are currently protected. Statistics on the Obamacare website show that only 15% of Americans are currently uninsured (How does Obama Care work?), which leaves a full 85% of Americans who will not benefit from this law due to current price increases of insurance. Pr...... half of the document ......p. to help Americans at all levels, especially those who need it, but fails to address the many problems that will arise when it is put into action. Not only does it violate our rights, it will also force those already covered by a private company to switch to state insurance, raising prices and creating rules that all health insurance companies will have to abide by. In some ways it's a ploy to monopolize free market companies and get most people covered by the Affordable Care Act, and that's why it's not beneficial to the majority.
