Topic > Why should gay couples be able to adopt? - 984

Thomas Jefferson mentions in the Declaration of Independence “all men are created equal” (Jefferson par 1). What does this mean exactly? It means that all men must have the same rights. No one should be treated more superiorly and given more opportunities. Gay adoption is an extremely controversial issue in our world today. Many people believe that it should be banned and that homosexuals should not enjoy the same rights that heterosexuals enjoy. How does this view compare to what Thomas Jefferson said? Homosexuals are the same as anyone else in the world and offer just as much to a child's education. Just because a person lives differently from other people does not mean that his rights should be taken away from him. Same-sex people should be able to adopt children, just like the rest of the world, without shame. Loving and supporting a child every day is all that matters when becoming a parent. Anyone can be a parent as long as they have the right tools to become one. If a same-sex couple is able to love, care and dedicate themselves just like a heterosexual couple, then they should have the same adoption rights. Many people say that a child needs a mother and father figure to be raised properly and to provide both gender perspectives. Some other people believe that gender doesn't matter when parenting. Society must put aside its differences and do what is best for the thousands of children who do not have loving families. Denying these kids a home just because two individuals of the same sex love each other is an injustice. Many people fear that children adopted by gay and lesbian couples are less successful in life, these theories are completely unfounded. The Independent's website states that gay and otherwise...... middle of paper ......g care home, an ability that does not depend on whether a parent is gay or straight. Children of lesbian and gay parents grow up as happy, healthy, and well-adjusted as children of heterosexual parents. If a person can love a child and can model himself as a loving parent to the child, then he should be able to be a parent. It doesn't matter if you are gay, lesbian or heterosexual. Gender nor sexuality has nothing to do with whether you are a good parent or not. Many homosexual people make excellent parents, as do many heterosexual people. Same-sex couples work like opposite-sex couples. Even if both parents are the same sex, one can function as the father figure and the other can function as the mother figure. Gays and lesbians deserve the right to raise a child because they are still human beings equipped to handle parental duties.
