Now, almost 15 years ago, Canongate Books published an unlikely series of individual books of the Bible. They were preceded by an implausible group of people. Mark's book was introduced by a post-punk and goth singer-songwriter, Nick Cave, from Australia. Going into this project, Cave was extremely skeptical. He had never read the book of Mark and had a negative view of Jesus Christ and thought it was a futile part of his life after his days as an altar boy in the church choir. He changed his tone after personally reading Mark's book. Cave said, “The Gospel of Mark overwhelmed me” (Nick Cave). Nick Cave tells how even the disciples completely misunderstood Christ and his brilliance. They followed Christ blindly, without knowing or understanding what He was really doing.
