Education is the first step in solving some of the world's most persistent environmental problems. Garret Hardin writes: “One of the main tasks of education today should be to create such acute awareness of the dangers of the commons that people recognize their many varieties.” (585) Education is critical if we are to solve some of our most complex environmental problems. Today there are many programs dedicated to expanding children's knowledge about nature and the environment. It would be wise to incorporate these learning experiences into early childhood classrooms around the world
