Topic > Prejudice and Discrimination - 1189

Unfortunately, due to our past history, discrimination has been present among us for decades. Discrimination and prejudice would likely remain among us until the end of the world. Prejudice and discrimination is an action that treats people unfairly because of their membership in a particular social group, class or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than that individual. It is unfair treatment of a person, a racial group, and a minority. It is an action based on prejudice. In this article I will discuss what happens when we allow biases and prejudices to influence our actions towards others. I will therefore conclude my article by explaining what we can do to prevent or eliminate discrimination. Prejudice and discrimination drive people apart instead of bringing us together. Our religion, race, height, nationality, and even our gender are factors that most people make quick judgments about. Unfortunately, many of these judgments are based on biases and assumptions, and this applies to all of us. Every country, state, city discriminates among themselves, even among their own kind. Although discriminatory behaviors occur in many forms, they all involve some form of exclusion or rejection. Over the years there have been several incidents of discrimination against me and my loved ones. This behavior allows the individual to feel wanted or lower their self-esteem entirely. Discriminating denigrates the ability of the individual. It may question their being as a person. Who is anyone to determine one's being? We live in a world where we use the term “All men are created equal.” However, we refuse to follow our own dictum. Most Americans are hypocrites. They pretend to have virtues, moral, religious beliefs and principles, yet we are full of hat... half of paper... and the pursuit of happiness is not alive in America. Not everyone can witness discrimination, but so I have come to experience it, its limitations, and a skill in so many ways. It is an unjustified act and should and could be stopped. No discrimination should be accepted. I believe people lack education or refuse to be educated on the topic to stop discriminating. Personally, I believe that no one can get far with ignorance. I think one of the problems is the lack of bringing the issues to the public and making people aware of this issue. We still don't talk about it enough; every minute someone is discriminated against. I firmly believe that our generation can look beyond the way we were raised and stop discriminating against each other. We need to teach our children better and also practice what we teach. We could start by talking, spreading the word and starting a petition.
