Who doesn't want a 100% green and economically advantageous school? You'll be surprised how a few unassuming changes can make our school such a superior place. Our walls and ceilings are tragically lacking in cellulose insulation, allowing the cool air that air conditioning has worked so hard to produce to escape. Existing windows allow outside heat to attack the temperature of our classroom. To top it off, the entire school draws energy from the electricity grid like a plant draws water. Ecological changes are not only simple, but they could break fossil fuels' hold on our schools. Improving our walls with cellulose insulation offers us an easy way to not only make our school more energy efficient, but also more purposeful. Currently, the walls and ceilings allow the cool air that our air conditioning has worked so hard to produce without any opposition. With the manageable installation of cellulose insulation, air does not escape easily. Heating or cooling would not be necessary and would therefore increase the school's budget. An added benefit of cellulose insulation is that it absorbs noise. Noise travels through the walls of a classroom quite easily, meaning that a loud classroom or a rowdy student in a hallway will disrupt a lesson. Isolation significantly muffles or even completely eliminates senseless noise produced by any source. For example, I was once sitting in my history class, taking a very important test, when suddenly I hear the deafening scrape of rubber on tiles. A child in the hall was dragging his shoe on the floor, making a terrifying noise. My mind struggled to focus on the test, and instead of paying attention to the test, I paid attention to the raucous sound coming from half......half of the paper......the advantage is that if the solar panels provide more energy than needed and the battery is charged, we can automatically resell the excess electricity to FPL. We can receive money from solar panels if they produce more electricity than necessary. We would also be reassured that they would last a long time. Most have a 25-year warranty and some work for up to 40 years after purchase. Overall, solar panels are not only a way to produce electricity and be “green,” but also an opportunity to earn money to fund school. The benefits of making our school 100% environmentally friendly are now clear as day. All in all, making our school more planet-friendly by installing cellulose insulation, high-efficiency windows, and solar panels is an effective way to expand our budget and increase student happiness and productivity.
