Should dying people be kept on a life support machine? Keeping a patient on life support is not a bad idea, it only becomes very controversial when an individual's chances of surviving are very rare. Opinions may be divided on the issue, but it is crucial to note that the act of placing an individual on life support when their chances of survival are minimal is unacceptable. It is precisely for this reason that I tend to suggest that there is no tangible reason to place someone who is very ill on a life support machine. It is one of the most unethical practices still witnessed in the field of medicine. One of the reasons the life support machine was invented was to help the body perform certain tasks that it was unable to perform. In case a sickly individual is already bedridden, it is very likely that almost all parts of the person's body will not function. It therefore becomes very difficult for the life support machine to continue to provide the services for which it was designed effectively. When all parts of an individual's body are not functioning properly, it is prudent that life support machinery is not applied to help the patient continue to survive. It is because it continues to do more harm than good to the person placed in the life support machine. Furthermore, the other function of the life support machine is to help keep the patient alive just before further recommended treatment can be administered. However, when all recommended treatments have been administered and the patient is unresponsive, it is not advisable to continue placing the patient on the life support machine (Evans, 2011). Another point to make is... half of the card... to let them die peacefully. In the event that dying people held in life support machines begin to recover from the drug, what is certain is that their lives will never be the same again. They will have to undergo numerous other treatments to sustain their lives. Furthermore, there are numerous precautions that the family will have to take to improve their life in society. In conclusion, the use of life support machine is intended for temporary purposes. A dying person should not be kept on the life support machine for a long period of time because this only creates false hopes among the dying person's close relatives. Not so many people have recovered from using the life support machine. But the few who have managed to recover are not living the same life they did before they were subjected to the machine.
