There are many competitive companies in the world that advertise attractive products that are not only high quality but also available at affordable prices. It's not often you come across a company with both of these characteristics, along with a touching story and heart-warming values. Shoe and eyewear company TOMS is an example of the latter. According to the TOMS website, the founder of this company is Blake Mycoskie. Mycoskie first visited Argentina to compete on the second season of the reality television show, The Amazing Race, in 2002. Four years later, he made Argentina his favorite vacation destination. During this visit he met many beautiful children, without shoes on their feet, who touched his heart. Mycoskie noted that lack of shoes was a prevalent problem for children in Argentina and other developing countries that had a major impact on the health of these children. After this experience, he decided to dedicate himself to the mission of helping needy children in developing countries, such as Argentina, by providing them with shoes. He accomplished this mission, making the “one for one” model his foundation when he created the company now known as TOMS.TOMS. Company policy is that for every shoe purchased by a consumer, the same shoe is sent to a child in need. Mycoskie doesn't stop there by providing a child with a shoe, but continues to help him throughout his childhood. Blake Mycoskie said, “I was so overwhelmed by the spirit of the South American people, especially those who had so little, and I was immediately struck by the desire, the responsibility, to do more.” In fact, he did more. After noticing the results of his shoe company and the increasing level of distribution of... half the paper... for this company. However, many companies, such as AT&T, have included TOMS in their advertising. The AT&T commercial that also advertised TOMS focused on the company's core purpose and sent a powerful message to viewers nationwide. The commercial featured the founder, or head of the shoe supplier as he calls himself, Blake Mycoskie talking intensely about his company and the love for what he does. While it included services provided by AT&T, it doesn't take away from this company's heartwarming story. Also included in this particular commercial was the worldwide event known as TOMS One Day Without Shoes: Barefoot Walk. This social event consists of people going barefoot for a day to raise awareness about the prevalent problem of children in developing countries. Participants in this walk range from individuals of different ages and occupations.
