Internet is one of the most used and useful tools that have flourished in modern society. It is something that can be innovated and renewed and transcends national borders facilitating the free flow of information around the world. The Internet not only allows us to communicate with other people in the United States, but it allows people to communicate with people all over the world. People have access to virtually everything put on the Internet, however some government regulations in other countries may prevent this access. Internet monitoring is a controversial issue regarding who should have access to the Internet, what gets posted, and what gets blocked. Some believe the Internet is a human right, while others believe it is a privilege and should be monitored by government and businesses for their employees. There are both benefits and downsides to whether or not the Internet should be monitored, and if so, who monitors the Internet and what rules are implemented. The Internet has allowed people to express ideas and communicate with each other around the world. Those who oppose government interference and Internet monitoring believe they have a right to privacy and freedom of personal expression. The Clinton administration wanted to enable the detection of potential threats to the US government by accessing classified information, intercepting Internet conversations and telephone calls. “While privacy faces threats from both private and government intrusions, the current disparate patchwork of privacy laws and practices falls short of providing comprehensive protection. Furthermore, if the United Nations were to take responsibility, the cost of providing its services globally would be too high for websites like Google. Since many countries have implemented their own agendas and policies, there is no need for the United Nations to regulate the Internet. Since Internet monitoring is a controversial issue on a political and social scale, it has both negative and positive aspects that benefit both the government and the people. . While some may object to Internet monitoring, in some circumstances it is necessary. It can help prevent and detect cybercrime, unauthorized access to sensitive data and terrorism. However, excessive monitoring policies often lead to censorship and suppression of unpopular ideas. The Internet should and perhaps will always remain decentralized without being regulated by the United Nations.
