Services should be provided in a way that considers the family's “resources, priorities and concerns”. For example, transportation, cost of services, and child care issues can limit a family's ability to fully participate and make certain choices. Effective early interventionists must carefully consider the family context. In this study, rating scales were used effectively as catalysts for discussion to help understand the family's views and priorities for the child and family.
