Equality means treating everyone equally, regardless of color, age, gender and disability. For women, however, this was not the case. Women were not treated equally to men. For example, if a woman wanted to vote, she couldn't, or if she works, she won't receive the same salary as men. This, however, changed when a group of women who called themselves "The Famous Five". “The Famous Five” wanted women to be considered “people” and treated like human beings. In 1929 everything changed when the Judicial Committee declared: women are indeed people. What women need to have to achieve equality is pay equity because women usually always get less than men, have more women in government, have championships for women playing professional sports and ensure women's rights. In order for women to gain equality, laws should be enacted for women to have equality in the world. By having women in politics, there can be more equality because the only people who are in politics and usually the Prime Minister are men. The only woman to become Prime Minister was Kim Campbell, but she did not remain in office for long. As of 2010, Canada ranks fiftieth in the world for women's participation in politics, with women holding only 23% of seats in federal and territorial legislatures. This is scandalous because Canada is a country of opportunity, hope and equality. However, this is not the case, because we are still in a society that has men as the superior power and women as the second class. Some people might describe this as white people having the superior power, while black people had no n...... middle of paper... I would take them seriously. Thanks to this law, women can have their rights guaranteed: if they suffer abuse, everyone must listen and not turn their heads when someone files a complaint. This can bring greater equality to women who are abused or not taken seriously. In conclusion, by ensuring equality for women there can be a balance between men and women. To do this, laws should be enacted so that women can have equality in the world. For example, equal pay for women, more women in government, leagues for women to play professional sports, and a law that guarantees women's rights. All ideas form the basis for helping women achieve equality. Once this is done, women can feel more at home and when they look back on their life they can say, “I had a great life.”.”.
