A video tells him that a helmet full of spikes has been locked around his neck and will close on his head unless he finds the key in time. Michael realizes that the key to the trap is behind his right eye. He finds a scalpel nearby, but is too scared to gouge out his eye. Time runs out and the trap closes and kills Michael. The next scene takes place with the film's main character, Detective Eric Matthews, arguing with his son Daniel. Matthews is called to the scene of a crime committed by Jigsaw. Matthews then notices that a lock on a trapping device around the victim's neck has a Wilson Steel logo, which then causes him to gather a SWAT team to go to the company's abandoned factory. It turns out that the factory is the Jigsaw layer. In the layer, a group's television monitors show several people trapped in a mysterious house, including Daniel. There's also a timer, with two hours remaining. Jigsaw tells Detective Mathews that he will see his son in a "safe and secure state" if he can sit in the room and converse with him long enough. In the house the kidnapped people try to understand how they got there. A person is passed out on the floor and is later revealed to be Amanda Young, a character from the first Saw film who once escaped from a puzzle trap. There are six people besides Daniel and Amanda, and none of them know who the others are. Amanda finds a cassette player and a note falls to the floor. She starts the tape and everyone learns that the door to the house will open in three hours... middle of paper... to the house at gunpoint. As they leave, the tech team discovers the signal going to the monitors and follows it. Xavier chases Amanda and Daniel through a trap door, which leads to a bathroom. Xavier then attacks Daniel, but he is only playing dead and slits his throat. The SWAT team arrives at the location of the video signal, but it is not the same house shown on the monitors in Jigsaw's hideout; the events in the house occurred a few hours earlier and were broadcast by tapes. Matthews arrives in the bathroom and is stabbed in the thigh with a hypodermic syringe and knocked unconscious by a person wearing a pig mask. The timer in Jigsaw's lair expires and a safe opens, revealing Daniel inside wearing an oxygen mask. Outside the house, a very badly beaten Jigsaw slowly forms a smile, as he is happy that his master plan worked perfectly..
