However, we, as human beings, need to do more to completely destroy the stigma surrounding our mental health. It needs to be treated as a physical illness is, with the same aggression and passion as things like cancer and diabetes. More needs to be done to make us healthier, not only in body, but also in mind. How does mental health stigma affect me? I suffer from bipolar disorder. I have struggled with suicidal thoughts, actions and self-harm. I take medicine every morning to balance the chemicals my brain can't produce. I'm not crazy, I won't hurt anyone, and I make sure to treat everyone with kindness. My disability is not visible, but it is present. It touches every aspect of my life. Even though it's hard, I've become a stronger person because of it. There is nothing in my life that I would change, because I thank God every night for the life I am living now. I have met many other people, young and old, who have had similar problems to me. I have met people from all walks of life and it has led me to this conclusion: mental illness does not discriminate.
