There are many different views on skeletons and they can be considered grotesque or beautiful. Most people would perceive skeletons as scary or ugly and connect them to death. However, people such as scientists, doctors, and those who wear skeletons for fashion would perceive skeletons as beautiful. A common way that skeletons are used in different cultures is through holiday celebrations. Skeletons are used in both American and Hispanic cultures for both ugly and beautiful purposes. In American culture, skeletons are set up for Halloween and used as decorations. In Hispanic culture, people who celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) see skeletons and death as part of the cycle of life. Every year, from October 31 to November 2, Día de los Muertos is celebrated to commemorate deceased loved ones and celebrate the life they had lived. From the skeleton face painting to the decorations, flowers, music, food, games, and candies, such as sugar skulls, the entire celebration is considered beautiful by this culture. Although people commonly refer to skeletons as grotesque, they can be beautiful at the same time. There are different types of people who share a love of human anatomy. An archaeologist who discovers fossils and puts bones together may find the skeleton beautiful, as may a doctor who aspires to become a chiropractor. I also find the skeleton to be a work of art. In high school, my anatomy and physiology class was one of my favorites because I found the bones of the body very interesting. The fact that each bone in the body has a specific name, function and structure is truly amazing. A person who doesn't think the human body is intriguing or that skeletons are just a bunch of bones might think that... half of the paper... is unreliable between different people, so even though skeletons can bring joy and are beautiful for some people, they can be ugly and grotesque for others. Skeletons are considered beautiful when one celebrates one's life during a ceremony, discovering the intriguing structure of the skeleton that makes up every being, and when they are represented by a fashion item. Whether the skeleton belongs to an insect or a human, each skeleton is a wonderful part of the life cycle. Works Cited “A Rich History.” - Día De Los Muertos, Remembering the deceased with joy. Ed.
