The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson on July 4, 1776 when thirteen United States colonies claimed separation from Great Britain. Today there are still many issues being debated. I believe that immigrants and gays/lesbians should enjoy equality and independence. Three articles I will talk about are “Queers,” published by the anonymous Queers in June 1990, “An immigrant Manifesto” written by Jorge Ramos, and the last one is “Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Address at Seneca Falls (1848) and Seneca Falls of Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions (1848).”Queer is another term for sexual minorities who consider gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transsexuals. The article on “Queers” talks about how queer people can do whatever they want in society and no one has to judge them at all. Heterosexual people can live without fear, go on television, not have to hide and much more. But they write to opposite groups of people referring to queers who live in fear and hide their true identity from society. I agree when “being queer is not about the right to privacy; it's about the freedom to be public, to simply be who we are. It means fighting oppression every day; homophobia, racism, misogyny, the bigotry of religious hypocrites and our own self-hatred. "(Queers, iii 79) Queers are also human, so they should have the same rights and values as any other person. Where is the right to autonomy for them? Human rights are based on freedom and having dignity to do something they like without being judged by the majorities. They were the first to be guilty when AIDS began to spread. It was also a painful situation for them when two males or two females walking do... in the midst of sheet...someone says something funny or dresses differently, people say "you're so gay". whether race, gender, sexuality, religion or color, we humans are created equal with equal benefits and opportunities The declaration was one of the most powerful and important declarations ever to occur in history created by Thomas Jefferson. Everyone should have the privilege that allows them to do what they want without any crime being committed. You should live life without fear and be happy with who you are. Both authors express their feelings and emotions towards these debated issues. Supporters of these groups write, sing and protest. Some people will even be arrested because of so much bitterness to show their taking charge.
