Roosevelt implemented many new stabilizers as part of the New Deal during the Great Depression. Many of the stabilizers implemented by President Roosevelt were a problem during the Great Recession. Social Security was an arrangement in which President Roosevelt made sure that the oldest generation of people from the Great Depression had some type of income. Before families on Social Security paid for the older generation, it was state or even local governments. Social Security during the Great Recession acted as a support network for the older generation who could have lost a large sum of money during the Great Recession
