Assets can also be physical in nature for a business, such as a plant and its equipment. Additionally, land is a terrific resource to have. Intangible assets, such as goodwill, are taken into consideration when a company is purchased or merged with another company, especially if the winning company is more valuable than the other (Melicher & Norton, 2013, p. 360) .
