Coal-fired power plants emit large amounts of mercury into the atmosphere, which pollutes the air and water of several ecosystems. A big debate is just how much mercury pollution is deposited near emission sites and how much is sucked into the atmosphere, where it becomes part of a global mercury pool made up of emissions from immeasurable sources of mercury from across the earth. The hypothesis is that mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants are polluting the environment and are seriously toxic to humans and the ecosystem. Scientists have used several research methods to gather data that provides evidence of mercury accumulation and harmful health effects on humans and the environment. The materials used in this study are peer-reviewed journal articles with information on humans, animals, and mercury levels in the environment emitted from coal-fired power plants. The data collected comes from precipitation samples, surveys and UM mercury fingerprints. Based on the functionalist perspective, the use of coal-fired power plants is a way to contribute to the practical continuation of society. These power plants provide electricity, which is a resource so dear to the modern American. Americans rely on electricity for all types of activities. The use of coal-fired power plants can also be seen through the eyes of a conflict perspective, where the use of these plants helps to "advance" a society economically and technologically, however they create toxins that produce health problems, which cannot be ignored. or ignored. Mercury is a natural element, but approximately 2,000 tons are emitted each year from human-generated activities. These sources are, but are not limited to, incinerators, coal plants... middle of the paper... contribute to heart disease in adults. In conclusion, coal-fired power plants provide electricity to millions of people, however there are many disadvantages to using these plants. Mercury released by these power plants contributes to air pollution that also accumulates in water supplies. These power plants, although they have enriched the socioeconomic environment of the United States, have very negative consequences. Based on the evidence shown in the articles and the data collected, mercury poisoning generates toxic environments for marine life, humans and earth's ecosystems. Many people in the United States and other regions of the world experience adverse health effects and problems resulting from mercury pollution, and while diseases or disorders resulting from exposure cannot be reversed, they can be monitored and reduced for future generations..
