Will County is home to numerous historic landmarks, famous people, and a myriad of history. It wasn't always as built as some parts are now; About two hundred years earlier, Will County was a prairie land farmed and hunted by the Potawatomi Indian tribe. The first settlement established in the county lines was created by a man named Jesse Walker in 1826. He called it Walker's Grove and worked with Potawatomi in the areas of farming, milling, and trading with the settlement's newcomers. The county was not officially established until 1836, when a legislature separated it from Cook County. Currently, Will County is made up of a number of townships, including Channahon, Crete, Custer, DuPage, Florence, Frankfort, Green Garden, Homer, Jackson, Joliet, Lockport, Manhattan, Monee, New Lenox, Peotone, Plainfield, Reed, Troy, Washington, Wesley, Wheatland, Will, Wilmington and Wilton. Among these municipalities, the county includes a number of cities.
