From my observations, I realized that much of his day was spent dictating medical records and recording bill payments. While these activities take away valuable time from your availability to see the patient, failure to record this information could lead to non-payment and even lawsuits. More than a private practice, being a doctor working for the state requires more paperwork of receipts and legal documents. In addition to these increased logistical duties, Dr. Goldstein was required to attend a weekly meeting on the clinic's financial and management operations. While these meetings allow problems to be addressed, they also hinder the treatment of patients. In essence, while these bureaucratic functions have allowed Dr. Goldstein to maintain a higher level of organization in his practice, they also create additional barriers to his clinical activity.
