Everyone is different: different backgrounds, different cultures, different upbringings and therefore different personalities. Everyone reacts to situations differently. By knowing your people, you can adapt your leadership style. Leaders should maintain an open and positive mindset that all your sailors are there doing their best at all times. With this, I take care of my people with little things letting them know what a great job they have done and how much I appreciate their hard work, organizing a team lunch or half days off, special freedom, nomination for Sailor of the quarter/year , the Flag Letter of Commendation, or the Navy Achievement Medal depending on the circumstances. Ultimately, it's about knowing your people and taking care of yourself
