If Zora Neale Hurston Were Alive Oprah Winfrey turned the entire book Their Eyes Were Watching God upside down and made a movie that consists of some major changes. Janie's character has changed completely in the book compared to the film, as has her relationship with her friends and classmates. Oprah reiterates some major parts which also concluded how the hurricane occurred which didn't last as long as in the book, the symbolism also differed in the movie and some major symbols remained evident as in the book. Winfrey changed the entire meaning of the title even though she didn't change the title Winfrey changed the meaning when everyone was looking at God instead of just Janie. Zora Neale Hurston would have been disappointed if she was still alive due to the fact that Oprah remade her book and made her own version that differed from Zora's novel.Janie Crawford in the movie Their Eyes Were Watching God and Janie in the novel Their eyes We Watching God differed tremendously in character. While reading the novel everyone would read that Janie is a young mixed woman who didn't come from a lot of money, she never met her parents and Janie really tries hard to find herself even through some of the obstacles she faces. Janie in the book was never equal to the men she married because she already knew she was not superior or better in any way. That was really the only time Janie said something disrespectful and out of touch. Watching the movie everyone should see a major change in Janie's entire character. Oprah made Janie a more outspoken, rough and gallant person with a different personality. Janie in the book would never have been as rude to Pheoby as she acted towards her in the movie because... middle of paper... I would have somehow incorporated the horizon into the movie and completely eliminated it. don't make the movie complete. Janie and her second husband Joe Starks didn't always see eye to eye, some of the things he did for her were truly sweet and compassionate. Joe knew exactly what to say to take Janie with him: “The day you put your hand in mine, I won't let the sun go down on us singles. Ah, a man with principles. You never knew what it was to be treated like a lady and Ah wants to be one to show you” (Hurston 35). Joe says this and right then Janie fell in love with him, that's what she wanted now. The relationship between Joe and Janie in the movie was very different from the one in the book. Janie had a lot to say in the film and never kept her mouth shut. Janie had more power over Joe in the movie it seemed Joe had over Janie. Joe wasn't always the best husband to Janie
