Lance Wyman created the five rings of the Olympic symbol, based on Mexican art but with the aim of creating a completely unified design system that could be easily understood by people of all linguistic backgrounds and flexible enough to suit a wide range of applications. Designers and design studios produced graphics and Olympic environments compliant with the design guide, developed by leading design studios. The MTV logo was commissioned by Manhattan Design, a New York studio known for its independent and risky experimentation. Pat Gorman, Frank Olinsky and Patti Rogoff had artistic backgrounds, influenced by comic book art. Gorman built a large TV-like graffiti on the face of "M" after feeling that Olinsky was bold, The 3D "M" needs further development, which creates a memorable and influential brand. Manhattan Design produced 100 sketches to showcase different versions of MTV. Gorman believed that the MTV logo "changed the face, the idea, and the speed of graphic design."
