Some Christians believe in an absolute meaning of these words. However, the New Testament supports an accurate elucidation. Matthew 19:12 talks about men having to undergo castration to avoid being tempted by their physical bodies and in fact some Christians have taken this message clearly with truly terrible results. Jesus' point of view on Hell is also interesting. The most appalling act of barbarism and/or hatred that can be committed against human beings in Christianity is being forced into Hell, into endless torture. Yet, Jesus, a man of endless love, compassion and sympathy, allowed the existence of hell where he himself would send people. In Matthew 5.29-30: He says that it is better to lose an eye or cut off a hand than to end up in hell. He later banishes all the inhabitants of a city called Capernaum. He had no consideration for young, pregnant women. This raises many questions and doubts about whether Jesus did not remember the commandment given to his Christians to love their enemies.
