Gym DwellersThe automated doors open to reveal a multitude of fitness machines and fill the air with the sound of weights clanking and the synchronized rhythmic beat of twenty pairs of Nikes hitting the floor simultaneously in step aerobics class; It's time to get physical. Every day, at any time, the same scene plays out in gyms across America, (Guy). A handful of muscular athletes, serious about competitive weightlifting, can be seen spotting each other in the free weights area. Mirrors in bathrooms, locker rooms, and on the fitness center floor are worn by beautified prima donnas and jeweled divas alike; worry about beautifying and flexing your way to personal greatness/fitness. Normal, average, everyday people just trying to fit an hour or so of training into their busy schedule; they want to come in, get pumped up and get on with their day – these are the best kind of gym dwellers. For those looking to improve their fitness levels, finding the willpower to actually get to the gym and the inner fortitude to train effectively is only half the battle; the other half of adversity is the cronyism that already awaits at the gym. Even for the most extroverted personalities, tough bodybuilder types and equally exercised female equivalents are intimidating. These fanatically fit people spend most of their time in fitness centers and it shows. Massive, monstrous-sized muscles and popping veins help identify the male of the species. The presence of these body building beasts is a bit overwhelming for most other gym members. The enormous size of each individual and the fact that they usually work together can make a trip to the free w...... middle of paper ......g to lift double your body weight with one arm. And, unlike parading peacocks, they are not trying to show off, compete, or lift up other gym members, (Yoder). They are realistic, down to earth people just trying to stay active. They are "Average Joes", (Dodgeball). Works CitedDodgeBall: A True Underdog Story. Dir. Rawson Marshall Thurber. Perf. Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. June 2004. Comedy. DVD from Twentieth Century Fox.
