CrescendoThe setting of the story is set in the garden. It is described as a wild nature. He has a small vegetable garden near the pond. I think this garden could have potential if it were looked after and not used as a "play area" for children. He has a bed where Mrs. Quick (one of the main characters) "grew flowers for the house" and "wasn't touched for years." He had lost the care. Old apple trees staggered on drab laurels, unpruned roses in the garden, and tall ruins of dahlias and dolphins hung from broken sticks. From the way the writer had written about the garden, he describes it as if it were like a jungle. I know this because he keeps calling it "wilderness". The reason for its abandonment was that it was for children and that "they should do what they want there". This sentence is a hint about what will happen later in the story. Mr Quick liked that their garden was different from other neighbors because he was proud that it was different and that his children had created a place where his children could play and relax. For them it was like a "play area". The writer repeats the word "desert" to emphasize the state of the garden. He wants readers to understand that the garden is like a "forest." The conditions, the smell, everything. “The sun is just warming up…making even the old weeds glow red and gold.” The reader says this because, even though the garden is like a jungle, it is still beautiful. They say that weeds are ugly and most people want to get rid of them, but the writer wants readers to understand that the garden is beautiful, weeds and all. “It had the special beauty of pristine woods.” The writer again tells the reader that the garden is like a "primeval forest." This means it was before man/untouched by man. This confirms what the writer said earlier about the quick family who didn't worry about the garden. The connection between the state of the garden and the children's behavior is similar in the sense that the garden is "wild" and that when the children "attack" the dog and their father their actions are "wild" because they throw "bamboo" sticks " to the dog and pounce on the father like a "wild" tiger perhaps? Their actions are like wild animals in the jungle, which could be seen as children in the garden. Children like wild animals and the garden
