A Positive Impact Over the years, minority groups have fought for rights and equal treatment. Some of these have influenced history. Women's rights and civil rights movements have had an impact on history and society as a whole. People of color no longer suffer from racism. And women got more rights, just like men. Even after all those years have passed, from 1969 to 2000, new groups arise who fight for their rights and equality. It shows how society continues to change and the impact it has had from the past. Lately gays and lesbians are one of the most present and combative groups. It is currently influencing and changing society, having some groups for it and others against it. The LBGT social movement has existed for a long time, yet many people have not come to support it. Acceptance of gay and lesbian society will bring good change in society, religion and less suffering from homosexual and non-homosexual side. Homosexuals have always been around, so they have been around so long that they are mentioned in the Bible and other older scriptures. Take for example Sodom and Gomorrah. But the issue of gays and lesbians fighting for equal treatment did not emerge until the late 1800s. Even though they are more present today, gays and lesbians have always fought for equal treatment from society. One of the most controversial topics in the LBGT movement is same-sex marriage. The topic is one of the most discussed and is one of the main reasons why gays and lesbians have not been fully accepted in society. Throughout time, marriage has been an act between a man and a woman. So to society another combination, man/man or woman/woman, seems unnatural and not normal.
